NEW STANDARD FOR TRADING SETTLEMENT: T+1

When you buy a stock you don’t receive the funds right away, there’s a settlement process of 2 days, also known as T+2. On May 8, 2024 the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will amend its rules to shorten this settlement time from two business days to one business day for any U.S. securities trade. The U.S. has not seen a change like this since 2017 when T+3 transitioned to T+2. The shortening of the settlement cycle to T+1 allows for a quicker turn around making stock surveillance data more timely.
